CW Duke — Refurbishment and Shopfitting

Social Case Study

  • Client: Taunton Deane and Somer Housing Associations
  • Value: £?k
  • Timescale: Two separate 4 and 7 year rolling programs.

CW Duke has recently undertaken social housing refurbishment projects with both Somer and Taunton Deane Housing Associations, as part of the Governments Decent Homes Program.

The projects covered a variety of housing styles and sizes from Georgian terraces to 1970s bungalows and one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom houses. Each job had unique requirements, including individual layouts of each kitchen and bathroom and specific remedial work required on each job. Add to this the wide geographic spread of rural villages to inner city town houses and the variety of tenants including the vulnerable and elderly meant these projects required a flexible approach.

The refurbishments followed a similar pattern. Tenants would be invited to attend an open day held in a local community centre, at which they would be able to see what work was involved and make choices on tiles, carpets, kitchen unit doors etc. Anyone unable to attend was visited at home to ensure they didn’t miss out. On completion of works, a survey was carried out at every property to ensure total satisfaction.
